Today, I'll show you my favorite piece of gym equipment the Elliptical. It's basic purpose is to offer a cardio workout machine that uses muscles that simulate running without the impact and stress on your joints. My gym only has four of these for some reason and they are normally being used. I guess I should add here that I am not a proffessional or a trainer, but neither are you. Most people at the gym aren't, so why are you still so nervous to walk in the door? But let's be honest we are all nervous at the gym to start with.
First just step on and start moving. It's so funny, most people don't want to look like they don't know what they're doing so they just get on and start pushing buttons. (GUILTY). Anyway the machine realizes this and it won't even do anything until you get on and start.
This machine gives you two options. You can choose a program or a "quick start" option.
If you want to do the program:
1. Press Enter
I chose the first program. 30 minutes
Here is me working hard! 2 calories burned. Let's move on.
This is my favorite
It's like having your very own personal Jillian!
Okay, but notice I am pressing, now the Quick Start option.
This is a simple option. You simply press and go. You can stay on for as long as you wish.
2. The Crossramp feature.
This feature may be unique to this machine. It's designed to alter the height of the elliptical path....whatever, it basically adjusts to work different muscle groups in your lower body. This machine is great because even during a "good" workout, your body doesn't feel the fatigue that you might feel on a treadmill. I actually enjoy working on this, especially with a good song on my iPod.
Here is all that writing
and I guess I should show you what the dang thing look like, huh?
That poor girl. I 'm so sorry I took your picture while you were working diligently on a treadmill wihtout doing your hair and then post it forever on the internet. I hope we can be friends.
This is why you don't come to the gym isn't people! This is probably not a normal occurrence.
A FEW MORE TIPS:
Everyone at the gym is self-conscious...it's why they're there
The equipment is not perfectly adjusted to your weight, height, and ability, so no one will think you're weird if you take the time to adjust the machines. Feel free to read the diagrams and directions.
Show up with a friend and you both can laugh at each other.
Make sure you wipe down the equipment when you are done. While you're working out, look around and find the paper towels and cleaner....they're there. When you're done, go spray a couple towels with the cleaner and come back over and wipe down your machine.
When doing the weight machines (we'll cover those tomorrow), carry a towel around with you.
Also, don't be afraid to ask if you aren't sure. If you have specific questions or would like a machine covered, please leave a comment. I have some more gym posts coming, so check back.
